CATEGORY A AWARDS
Sportsmanship Awards (by Division)
The Gerry Varnes Sportsmanship Award: Platinum Division
The Gordon Family Sportsmanship Award: Winnipeg Free Press Division
The Marni Miles Sportsmanship Award: Price Division
These awards are presented annually to the player from each division who best inspires others to play for the enjoyment of the game and development of skills, and, has also made a significant contribution to the success of the team by way of sportsmanship and fair play. The trophy will be accompanied by a $250.00 scholarship award that may be used for post-secondary education
The Santa Lucia Rookie of the Year Award in Memory of Eleni Wilson:
THERE WILL BE ONE AWARD FOR EACH DIVISION.
These awards are presented annually to the ROOKIE who best inspires others to play for the enjoyment of the game and development of skills. The term “ROOKIE”, for purposes of this award, is a player in either Grade 9 or Grade 10 for the current season. The trophy will be accompanied by a $250.00 scholarship award that may be used for post-secondary education.
Top Defenseman Awards (by Division)
The Bruce Diduck Family Top Defenseman Award: Platinum Division
The Glenn Diduck Family Top Defenseman Award: Winnipeg Free Press Division
The Diduck Family Top Defenseman Award: Price Division
These awards are presented to the defenseman who demonstrates the greatest all-round ability in the position. This player exhibits this through limiting opposition scoring opportunities by positional play, blocking shots and clearing the puck from in front of their net. The winning defenseman should also demonstrate a love of the game and respect for his fellow players and officials. The trophy will be accompanied by a $250.00 scholarship award that may be used for post-secondary education.
Most Improved (by Division)
Kevin Landreville/Murray Automotive Group Top Goaltender Awards(by Division)
These awards are presented annually to a recipient in each division who exemplifies strong performance in goal, that positively impacts the team
on-ice performance. The recipient should also demonstrate a dedication to the sport through competing hard in practices, while also building positive connections with team-mates/coaches.
The Santa Lucia (St. Mary’s) WHSHL Most Valuable Player Awards (by Division)
THERE WILL BE ONE AWARD FOR EACH DIVISON.
These awards are presented to the players, who have made the greatest contribution, and had the most significant impact, on their team. The MVP should be considered as a player who makes a difference to his team (when he is not on the ice, the team is truly missing something). The trophy will be accompanied by a $250.00 scholarship award that may be use for post-secondary education.
The Santa Lucia (Corydon) WHSHL 2024-2025 Scoring Champion Awards
These awards Acknowledge the players from the Winnipeg High School Hockey League who finish the regular season with the most points. Players from the Platinum Promotions Division, Winnipeg Free Press Division and the Price Division are to be submitted. The trophy will be accompanied by a $250.00 Scholarship Award that may be use for sport, post-secondary education.
NOTE: No Vote, No Nominations.
CATEGORY B AWARDS
Kosmos Simeonidis Most Improved Player Award - Platinum Division
Play All Sports Most Improved Player Award - Winnipeg Free Press Division
Kosmos Simeonidis Most Improved Player Award - Price Division:
These awards are presented to a player who exemplifies what it means to be a team player. With a sportsman-like demeanor and an excellent work ethic, this player has made significant improvements in his/her on ice performance, from the previous season. The trophy will be accompanied by a $250.00 scholarship award that may be used for sport, post-secondary education.
Dave Hill Scholarship $3,500.00 Bursary:
This $3,500.00 Bursary is given to one WHSHL player who achieves a combined academic average of 75% in his or her Grade 11 and Grade 12 years and plans to attend a post-secondary institution. This student athlete will be chosen for the respect they have earned from within the student body as a whole, their team and their teachers. A current transcript indicating the player’s academic abilities must accompany the nomination. CANDIDATES WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED WITHOUT A CURRENT TRANCRIPT
Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League $1,000.00 Scholarship in memory of Mr. Wayne Deschouwer, Past President of the Charlwood Hawks and Lifetime Member of the MMJHL:
This $1,000.00 Scholarship is given to one Winnipeg High School Hockey League player who achieves a combined academic average of 80% in his Grade 11 and Grade 12 years, and plans to a attend post-secondary institution. This student athlete should demonstrate good citizenship and leadership. He should be an ambassador for their school and their team. A current transcript indicating the player’s academic abilities must accompany the nomination. CANDIDATES WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED WITHOUT A CURRENT TRANCRIPT.
The Fountain Tire $1,000.00 Scholarship Award:
This $1,000.00 scholarship is awarded annually to a player who has been in the League for two (2) years, has maintained an academic average of 80% or higher and plans to attend a post-secondary institution in Manitoba following high school. A current transcript indicating the player’s academic abilities must accompany the nomination. CANDIDATES WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED WITHOUT A CURRENT TRANCRIPT
Platinum Promotions Awards:
$500. 00 awarded to a goalie and $500.00 awarded to a skater, both of whom will have indicated they intend to seek a post-secondary education. The awards recognize both outstanding team play and academic achievement. When entering a nominee, please indicate whether the nominee is for a “Skater” or “Goalie” Award.
A current transcript indicating the player’s academic abilities must accompany the nomination. CANDIDATES WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED WITHOUT A CURRENT TRANCRIPT
The Don Barton Memorial Award:
This award is presented to a player who has exhibited exceptional gentlemanly conduct both on and off the ice, a high standard of playing ability, and is in good academic standing at their school. The trophy will be accompanied by a $500.00 scholarship award that may be used for post-secondary education. CANDIDATES WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED WITHOUT A CURRENT TRANCRIPT
Shooters Family Golf Centre (Cerasani Family) Character Award:
This award goes to the player who shows an intense love for the game personified by on ice hustle, achievement beyond talent, and who overcomes obstacles that may stand in the way of him playing. This player has a “Team Before Me” philosophy and demonstrates persistence, unselfishness, and sportsmanship. This player works hard, breaks down brick walls to play, and never gives up. The recipient of this award will receive $250.00 to be used for sport, post-secondary education.
The Brandon Trask Leadership Award:
This award recognizes an individual, from any division, who is a strong team leader and a contributing member of society. This player or goaltender leads by example through on-ice performance, motivation of teammates and dedication to community activities and charitable causes. This individual demonstrates the utmost respect for the game, the officials, for coaches and for his fellow players. The trophy will be accompanied by a $250.00 scholarship award that may be used for post-secondary education.
The Kosmos Simeonidis “Unsung Hero” Scholarship Award:
This award is presented to a player who is a dependable teammate and a “go-to-player”, who consistently steps up in any situation when called upon by coaches, showcasing adaptability and an unwavering commitment to the team’s success. While the recipient must be a student in good standing, academic averages will not be a primary criterion for selection, ensuring the focus remains on character, work ethic, and contributions to the team. The recipient of this award will receive $250.00 to be used for sport, post-secondary education
The David Townsend Jack of All Trades Award:
The Jack of All Trades Award is presented to a player who is a dependable teammate and a go-to player who consistently steps up in any situation when called upon by coaches, showcasing adaptability and an unwavering commitment to the team’s success. The recipient must be enrolled in either a Vocational Program or the High School Apprenticeship Program. While the recipient must be a student in good standing, academic averages will not be a primary criterion for selection, ensuring the focus remains on character, work ethic, and contributions to the team. Above all, the honoree must be a positive force within the team, fostering camaraderie, respect, and a character that makes this individual an invaluable member of the team. $250.00
The Keith Bodley Memorial Award:
This award seeks to honour an adult volunteer who epitomizes the best characteristics of all hockey people. The award recognizes and acknowledges a man or woman who has made an outstanding contribution to the Winnipeg High School Hockey League. The recipient will be presented with the award, by a member of the Bodley Family, at the awards banquet.
The Winnipeg High School Hockey League Coach of the Year Award:
This award is presented annually to the Coach who embodies the finest standards of teaching the game of hockey as well as an outstanding ability to inspire players to set and reach their personal goals on the ice, in the classroom and in our community. This award applies to one member of the coaching staff and may be head coach or an assistant coach.
CATEGORY C
The Travis Price Hockey Spirit Scholarship Award:
The family of the late Travis Price wishes to acknowledge, through these scholarships, the generosity of spirit of their son, and will present annually, $500.00 scholarships, to one player from each team in the Winnipeg High School Hockey League.

Recipients should embody the following qualities:
Each team may nominate a candidate to receive the Travis Price Hockey Spirit Scholarship Award provided that the nomination process shall involve a vote where each player and coach (but no others) has one vote, and the majority will decide the name of the candidate to be the winner of the Spirit Scholarship from that team. In the case of a tie, thereby identifying two obvious candidates, each will receive one half of the award.
Notes: Scholarships may be deferred for up to five years (from date of the
Award) pending written notification by the recipient to the Scholarship Officer at The Winnipeg Foundation.
In the event that an award is not made in any given year, the funds shall be made available for future granting in consultation with the Advisory Committee.
** THIS PROCESS MUST BE FOLLOWED FOR THE TRAVIS PRICE AWARDS. THE PRICE FAMILY WISHES THAT EACH TEAM CHOOSE THE PLAYER THAT THEY FEEL IS MOST DESERVING OF THIS AWARD. THE AWARD IS AVAILABLE TO ALL GRADE LEVELS.
